Artisan-Selected Leather & Tools

We began in leather carving, and nearly four decades with leather have honed our eye for selection — our earliest skill of all. We supply leather, hardware and hand-stitching tools at retail and wholesale, for students and designers alike.

Leather Types

We carry all kinds of leather, and not all of it is shown here. If you're after something specific, just ask us.

Vegetable-Tanned Leather

Tanned with natural plant tannins — the first choice for carving and hand stitching. Firm and highly workable, it develops a rich patina with use, and is the leather that best "ages" into character.

Chrome-Tanned Leather

Soft and easy to cut, with stable, even color — a go-to for bags and linings. Fine to the touch, it suits designs that need large areas of leather or multi-color combinations.

FAQ

Common Questions

Can I come to the shop to buy leather in person?
Of course. We welcome hobbyists to select leather at the workshop. We recommend calling ahead to confirm current stock and the spec you want, so you don't make a wasted trip.
What kind of leather should I choose for what I'm making?
The right thickness and type of leather differs for every product, so it's hard to cover it all here. Tell us on our Facebook page what you'd like to make, and we'll recommend suitable leather.
Can leather or hardware be made to spec?
Standard-spec hardware can be custom-made, but usually above a certain quantity: thresholds differ by item — some can be made at a few hundred, others need tens of thousands, depending. For leather, all orders can include skiving, and come in A4, 30x30, quarter, half and full-hide sizes. For details, contact us on our Facebook page.
I have a specific quantity and need — can it be customized?
Yes. Below a certain quantity, the cost of making leather materials is hard to spread out; but as long as you have a clear quantity, we can arrange a custom order and quote around it.
